Training Session

The MFPD Training Bureau offers more than 150 training opportunities to our Fire Fighters every year. Training topics include everything from ladders to vehicle rescue, from ropes and knots to strategy and tactics. Training is provided to members based on their level of experience and position within the Department. All members start out by completing an eight-month recruit class that provides the fundamental knowledge to become a safe and effective fire fighter. After finishing the recruit program members continue to learn-by-doing at weekly training sessions.

Heavy Rescue

Our Training Division staff coordinates all training sessions. The Division is run by . In addition to handling the in-house trainings, he also manages our Training Facility and schedules members for State and Nationally offered seminars, conferences and trainings. Of course that doesn't mean he teaches every session. In fact more than 2/3 of our members are State Certified Instructors. In 2002, our members completed more than 11,000 hours of training according to State records.
